Newborn portraits are best scheduled within the first five days of life. Most moms call before labor to schedule a tentative date. Newborns are much more comfortable at home but there is some small availability at a studio space as well.
For the home I bring a small backdrop set up, and often utilize the decor of the room. I have various props, accessories, and blankets but you’re welcome to include anything that is sentimental to your family.
For newborn portraiture I concentrate on tiny baby parts, as well as a variety of sleepy posed portraits. Minimal to no clothing for such tiny babies is optimal. Be sure you wash the mouth and eyes and put lotion on the baby’s body before the session. As always, mom, dad, and other siblings are welcome too.
Before your newborn session I prefer to have a phone consultation to discuss your plans for the portraits. I strive to maximize my time and your time as I photograph specifically for the items you plan to purchase. I offer a variety of printed products such as albums, collages, wall portraits and even custom photo jewelry! I also offer digital files with a minimum print purchase.
During the consultation we will also discuss other things to do before your session to maximize a sleepy baby during portraits!
